To radically reduce the high cost of caregiver overwhelm on a global scale an “army” of family caregiver coaches need to be trained. To do our part we will focus on the inherent leadership role of unpaid family caregivers whose care recipients with disabling conditions have the opportunity of attaining full or functional independence through rehabilitation of mind, body, and spirit. This is our forte. We intend to partner with other organizations to scale this program globally, leveraging advanced AI translation technology to ensure accessibility for a diverse audience.

”If my job of Caregiver is unpaid, what is the Payoff?

The role of “leadership” is typically associated with freedom, responsibility, influence, and magnetism; positive traits which many aspire to and which garner lots of praise and respect. Unpaid family caregiving, on the other hand, is a role that most people hope to never have to undertake and is typically associated with being a victim of circumstance, not a leader. 

The majority of unpaid caregivers fall into the “self-sacrifice trap” by playing the role of a martyr to solicit sympathy or the role of hero to summon admiration from others. But, these emotional payoffs ultimately feel empty. Too many caregivers succumb to caregiver overwhelm, become chronically ill or even commit suicide because they have not found a sense of purpose in their unpaid job.

There is an alternative payoff which is found on the path of Enlightened Caregiving (see more below) and that is the opportunity for accelerated self-discovery, which is the inevitable outcome of taking on the role of leader.

Family caregiving, in many respects, is the ultimate leadership role in that it requires more from the individual than any other role a person can take on.  Caregiving, at its best, provides an opportunity for caregivers to step into a level of their own humanity, responsibility and power that they wouldn’t otherwise know existed.

The shock of a loved one suddenly needing your all-encompassing care due to an illness or disability can happen at any time in your adult life. Even if you have been anticipating assuming the role of caregiver when it comes time to "step up to the plate" the full scope and weight of your new caregiver job requirements, in addition to everything else you have going on in your life, can feel burdensome and overwhelming.
